ABOUT

I am Affonso Henriques, a researcher, essayist, and consultant whose work focuses on decision-making under uncertainty and complexity, scenario analysis and strategic foresight, leadership, organizational behavior and cognition, work and motivation, and cross-cultural analysis.

I completed my Master’s degree at the University of Brasília (UnB), where my research examined cultural patterns and leadership norms in a comparative study involving employees in Brazil and the United States. I subsequently pursued PhD studies at ESADE in Barcelona, part of Universitat Ramon Llull, under the supervision of Simon L. Dolan.

My academic background and professional experience have led me to a simple conclusion: complex problems are rarely understood through formulas, fashionable concepts, or ready-made answers. They require examining context, human behavior, competing forces, incomplete information, and the assumptions that quietly shape decisions.

My intellectual approach is strongly influenced by the habit of questioning assumptions, testing arguments, and reconsidering conclusions when evidence requires it. Adam Grant’s Think Again reflects this perspective, as does my continuing study of reasoning and argumentation through Think Again: How to Reason and Argue, developed by Duke University professors Walter Sinnott-Armstrong and Ram Neta. Think again. Think for yourself. I am here to help you in that endeavor.

My academic and professional interests are also reflected in my affiliations with the American Psychological Association and the Academy of Management, particularly in the fields of cognition, organizational behavior, strategy, research methods, and decision-making.
